SC8108 RJ45 Network LAN Length Telephone Cable Location Tester Meter Measure Display RJ45
For the £24 I paid for this meter, its excellent value. Sure, it feels very 'light' and the manual is written in chinglish, but I've used it for a while now and had no issues. I've used this for CAT6 cable testing and been very happy.
Other cheaper (and many more expensive) LED based meters will just tell you if the cable is wired correctly. This meter will tell you which pins are wired to which pins, how long each twisted pair is, and if there's a break in the wiring it will tell you which end of the cable it is on (this is really useful as you can immediately see which plug or faceplate might be dodgy. The wire length feature also seems to be quite accurate, and it will measure this on a pair by pair basis, so if one pair is broken or shorted it will indicate where this is. You can test cables by looping both ends into the handheld meter, or by attaching one end to the remote unit. This is really useful for checking which cable is routed as the remote unit 'chirps' when plugged into the main unit. I've also noticed that it has a different 'chirp' if there is a cable fault. It also seems to support multiple remote units with different ID's, but only one remote is supplied with the unit. If I was wiring cables all day long I'd want something more robust, with better quality components/ports and multiple remote units, but for small jobs this is an excellent piece of kit. ![]()
